Newport Pop Festival Program w/Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane & More

Original 1st printing 8&3/8 x 10&3/4" 50-page concert/event program for the Newport Pop Festival, held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA on 8/3-4/1968.

Design by Butler/Geller, the event featured performances by the James Cotton Blues Band, Steppenwolf, Electric Flag, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Grateful Dead, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Jefferson Airplane, Things to Come, Country Joe & the Fish, the Byrds, Canned Heat, Eric Burdon & the Animals, Tiny Tim, Iron Butterfly, Illinois Speed Press and Sonny & Cher.

Thin glossy-coated index stock (cover) program (with thin flat index pages) is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; the outer cover has a large diagonal bend traversing the image from the top center margin to the lower right corner, there's a 1/2" diagonal clip out of the bottom right corner tip and a few scattered surface dings and a bit of toning, but it's basically OK. The interior is fine- no doodles, stains or tears. Not bad for a 45-year-old program distributed at a 2-day hippie festival. The program features great photos of all the bands, essays, really neat period advertisements, photos and artwork. A fascinating artifact from this semi-obscure festival.
